MS SQL Always on High Availability Group viewable in DPM 2012R2 but can't list DBs

Environment: two node cluster (Failover Cluster Manager) using MS SQL 2016 Always on High Availability Group. DPM Agent installed on both NODES, NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM has sysadmin SQL Role defined on both nodes. In DPM 2012R2 when creating a new Protection group to backup the AG group dbs, I can see the cluster name, example. Clustername (Cluster) and the AG groups below it, but they are blank. NO DBs are visable. If I go to Node 2 (typically my secondary node, as node 1 is the primary), in DPM I can see the DBs but if I choose one of the to be a member of the protection group if fails. The statement says the db is a member of a AG group and consistency checks always fail.

DPM 2012R2 Version 4.2.1603.0

MS SQL Server Nodes --> MS SQL 2016 13.0.5149.0

Any insight would be much appreciated.
